When it was time to leave my apartment, I picked up my small travel purse with the essentials (money, ipod, camera, travel documents, make-up), then my large carry-on backpack and when I reached for the 30" rolling bag it hit me - I have over packed! I was sure that my 30" Load Warrior weighed in at 80 pounds and was expecting to pay for oversized luggage. Surprisingly, it was 53 pounds - but I could not bear to dig through the bag to put something from my checked bag into the bag that I am planning to carry on to the plane - it's heavy enough! So I paid for the overage. Since I have so much time at Dulles, I may motivate to do some shuffling of items...
Once I arrive in Edundja (the location of my assignment) next week, I'll be able to unload about half of what's in my carry-on backpack - I am giving my host family, which consists of 6 adults and 6 children, Connect Four and a collection of food storage containers. It's not heavy, but it does take up a lot of room in the bag.
I may have gone a little overboard on the OTC medications, blister care (my poor blister-prone feet) and toiletries... Just call me Duane Reade. Hopefully I won't need to use even half of what I brought. Maybe I can open a drug store in my free time...
I did take a picture of my fully stuffed 30" Load Warrior - the perfect example of an organized traveler - and I'll post it when I download pics. Time will tell if my genius packing abilities are a blessing or a curse...
Gonna start heading to the gate for the first leg of my flight...

Good thing you did all that training for the half-marathon before you left. You don't need no stinkin' Sherpa!
Everytime I look at the name of your blog, I start singing that Saturday Night Live song they did for The Chronicles of Narnia (the chronic...what? the chronic...what? the chronicles of narnia)
Thanks a lot.
Hope all is well...keep us posted.
xoxo...julie
